Foursquare has not really hit Lanzarote as yet but there are a few social media entrepreneurs here trying to educate the island as to the benefits.
We received invitations to the International Foursquare Day on Saturday 16th April by Facebook and Twitter so we decided to go to the Cafe Bar La Miñoca at El Charco de San Gines in Arrecife to see who else was embracing this medium in Lanzarote.
It was really good to meet up with some other Social Media “geeks” such as:
Barbarella otherwise known as the Mad Cat Lady
Wehal aka Eric who loves the techie side of the Internet
Carlos Martinez from Lanzarote Agenda
Armando Acuña from Solucionet
Dipak Dadlani who has my phone permanently buzzing with the amount of Foursquare checkins he does!
Julian Gonzalez a freelance architect
Are the businesses of Lanzarote missing a trick not being switched on to Foursquare? Do our visitors expect to receive special offers and to be able to check in to establishments here?
Eric has set up a website for Foursquare in Lanzarote which is currently showing 1500 places that you can "check in" to. Currently Facebook Places seem more popular with residents on the island.
We don’t want to change Lanzarote but we do understand that there is a need for us to embrace Social Media and connect to our tourist market.
