Did you know that Sam Walton, the founder of Wal-Mart, used to visit more than three hundred stores to celebrate success? In fact, every week there used to be a "buyers of the month," an "Honor's Roll" and "Cheerleaders" as well. Sam even performed the hoola dance in the street when the company crossed a certain target!
In other words, create a company culture where people take pride in their work. In order to build positivity--and keep the momentum going--let's take a look at several principles developed by Dr. Edward De Bono to inspire a positive revolution.
Effectiveness.
Without effectiveness, there are only dreams. Effectiveness means setting out to do something and reaching your goal. It means that your company believes in a get-results culture and that your employees are go-getters. Now, does this sound like your company?
Constructiveness.
The direction needs to be positive, not negative. Your focus should be constructive, not destructive.
Respect.
Respect comes your way based on the way you behave towards other human beings. This covers human values and feelings. A company is run not just by your people but also for your people. That's why respect is essential. If you cannot be positive toward fellow human beings, what is the point of being positive at all.
Self-Improvement.
Every individual has the right and duty to make himself or herself better. A machine or robot cannot make itself better but a human being has that potential. Even Tiger Woods works out and match practise is a must before every competition. No matter how good you are, you can still set the bar higher and reach for the stars.
Contribution.
Contribution is essential. It is not what you can expect or demand but what you contribute that matters. We can contribute, even if the contribution appears very small. Small contributions, over time, add up to big results.
If you want to be more positive, spread the positivity around. Smile more often and offer a handshake. Spread the good cheer. And watch your company become a lighter, more joyful place of work.
What do you think? How would you describe your workplace? How about the company you own? Feel free to share your ideas in the comments section. We would love to hear from you.
